As you probably know, today is #givingtuesday. I know you are being asked to give money from everyone and their grandmother today so I am GIVING you a little awe-inspiring history lesson instead.
Did you know that Giving Tuesday only started six years ago in 2012?
It was started by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season.
It started with someone having AN IDEA to create change.
Today, only six years later, Giving Tuesday is expected to raise $300 million in 150 countries.
Think about that. It started when someone (or someones) had an idea to create change and put CONSCIOUS ACTION behind that idea.
Today, I would like you to keep in mind this question. Go ahead, write it down.
If you take an idea that you have for creating positive change in your community or workplace and put action behind it, could you change one person’s life?
Whether that means joining a board, starting an organization or switching careers, do you think you could change one person’s life if you put action behind your idea?
