Don’t you want to be in love?

Don’t you want to be in love?

Don’t you want to be in love? The kind of love that wakes you up with a smile. The kind of love you want to tell about to your waitress, your mail carrier and your manicurist.

I’m not talking about romantic love.

Nope. I’m talking about the love for something you are doing in your life that makes you excited, hopeful and satisfied.

Years ago, I met the director of a women’s shelter in Connecticut at a networking event. To say she was impressive is putting it very lightly; she had a post-graduate degree in systems engineering, was bilingual, and moved with extreme ease through the crowd, capturing each person she spoke to with her personality. I thought this woman could be doing anything. She could be anything. So, I asked her what makes her dedicate her talent and time to the women’s shelter, instead of to a high-paying corporate job?

“I want to be in love with my life. I don’t want to have a luke-warm affair. I want head-spinning, stomach-flipping love. This job gives me that.”

For her, love was found in helping women at their most vulnerable moment. It wasn’t easy work. Her job had its share of ups and downs. But at the end of the day, she loved it.

Everyone should have this love in their life.

Your love affair doesn’t have to be with your job. It can be with a passion project, a volunteer job, or how you use your money to help others.

What is your great love affair?
